 SPI inflation moves to 25-week high at 42.27 PC yoy.


Karachi: Weekly inflation shot up 1.37 percent week-on-week and 42.27 percent year-on-year during the week ended March 9, witnessing a 25 week high on annualised basis as prices of perishable begin climbing ahead of Ramazan.


Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) data issued on Friday attributed the surge in the sensitive price indicator (SPI) to the increase in prices of tomatoes (12.43 percent), potatoes (11.37 percent), onions (9.26 percent),sugar(5.48 percent), bananas (5.31 percent), cooking oil 5 litre (4.27 percent), wheat flour (4.06 percent), vegetable ghee 2.5kg (4.01 percent),printed lawn (2.00 percent), curd (1.89 percent),milk fresh (1.82 percent), tea (1.79 percent), shirting (1.45 percent), broken basmati rice (1.24 percent) and powdered salt (1.21 percent).

On the other hand, a major decrease was observed in the prices of chicken (6.73 percent),garlic (2.07 percent), pulse moong (0.83 percent),eggs (0.77 percent), pulse masoor (0.50 percent), LpG (0.26 percent) firewood(0.12 percent), pulse gram (0.05 percent).

Brokerage Arif Habib Limited on its official Twitter handle said this was the highest weekly you number since September 8,2022.
